Discover Ceredigion: A Call to Prayer
Steff Morris
Ceredigion
This is a county that showcases the best of Cymru! A coastal path with stunning scenery, stunning, quaint, and quiet beaches, traditional agricultural communities producing a wealth of mouth-watering local produce, welcoming, colourful, and magical towns, a stronghold of Welsh language, identity, and culture, and a population that is open, welcoming and warm-hearted. It really is as lovely as it sounds!
However, in the midst of the natural beauty and innate warmth, there has not been much warmth over the centuries towards the gospel of Jesus Christ. Outside one Unitarian place of worship in the County there is a plaque boasting the fact that these communities have resisted every reformation or evangelical revival throughout the years. Proudly basking in their status as the "Black Spot" of Wales.
Pray that the light and beauty of Jesus will shine all over the county, illuminating every town and village with new hope!
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it."
Thank God for the new missional work that is happening in the area. To highlight just three, the Ffynnon community in Llandysul is still growing, Freedom Church in Aberystwyth connects with the community in a number of ways, and a new congregation is starting in the Newcastle Emlyn area. Pray that God will bless the witness of the churches and gospel communities in the county, and call people to Himself.
Pray, at the start of a new term, God will bless the universities and students in Lampeter and Aberystwyth in particular. That the students will meet Jesus, be trained to follow and serve him, and go home to make disciples in their own communities.
Finally, but perhaps most importantly, pray for the children and young people of Ceredigion. The levels of poverty among children here is frightening, and there are many children within a care system who are doing their best in extremely challenging circumstances. Pray that the children of Ceredigion will experience the closeness of Our Father in heaven, and find a safe place and warmth from His family, the Church, here on earth.
